At The Questors, we are committed to providing a professional, inclusive and secure environment where young people can take creative risks safely. Here you’ll find everything you need to know about our standards, safeguarding, and daily operations.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

The Questors Youth Theatre operates under a strict Child Protection Policy. We believe that every young person has the right to be safe and protected from abuse and neglect.

DBS Checks

Every tutor, assistant, and chaperone holds an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.

Trained Leads

Our Youth Theatre leadership team are fully trained Safeguarding Leads.

Safe Spaces

All sessions take place in our secure theatre complex, with designated “Safe Zones” for breaks and arrivals.

QYT Standards

Professionalism: We treat our students like young professionals. This means being on time, ready to work, and respectful of the rehearsal space
The “Stage Door” Rule: To ensure safety, students must be dropped off and collected from the designated entrance. We do not allow students to leave the premises unaccompanied without prior written consent
A Phone-Free Zone: To encourage focus and privacy, mobile phones must be switched off and kept in bags during all sessions
Inclusive Environment: We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying. We foster a “one company” culture where every student is supported by their peers

Practical Essentials

Uniform: All students are required to wear the branded QYT T-shirt. This helps our staff identify students quickly within the building
First Aid: There is always at least one qualified First Aider on-site during all workshop and class hours
Inclusivity: We work closely with parents of children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) to ensure our sessions are accessible
Attendance: Theatre is a team sport! We ask parents to notify us of any absences at least 24 hours in advance so we can adjust rehearsal plans

The QYT Uniform

All our QYT students wear our branded T-Shirts. They are compulsory because they help our tutors identify students in a public building and foster a professional “company” atmosphere from day one. Order yours online for collection at the theatre.

Parent FAQs

Parents and carers are not able to stay and watch sessions, though you are welcome to stay onsite during the lesson in our foyer and café areas. Each class will do a showcase during the year for parents and carers to watch, so you can see how they have developed their skills.

Please inform us of any medical conditions we need to be aware of. If the student uses an inhaler or carries an Epipen, please ensure they have this with them and that the tutors are informed. There is always at least one qualified First Aider on-site during all workshop and class hours

Please allow plenty of time to travel for collecting your young person from class. If you are running late, please contact us and let us know. Your child will be supervised until they can be collected by a registered adult.

Young people can be members of QYT from Year 1 at school, up to and including Year 13, so the minimum age is 5 and maximum age is 18.
