The Questors Present

Bard in the Yard

By William Shakespeare

Two metres or not two metres?

The Questors Theatre is back with live performances in our outdoor courtyard on each day of the bank holiday at 5.30pm. We are Shake-ing it up with a medley of abridged plays by our most iconic playwright.

William Shakespeare’s life was shaped by viruses: he was born during the bubonic plague which killed at least a third of Europeans and shut theatres for 14 months (imagine!). But during the height of the plague, Shakespeare wrote some of his greatest works including many of the plays we will be performing.

Because we love so many of The Bard's tantalizing tales, we are packing them into 7-minute quick-fire snippets, which will be physically acted out (minus the touching, of course) by a company of our bold and brilliant actors. These plays include: Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, The Winter's Tale, The Tempest, Antony and Cleopatra, and Hamlet. One man, in his time, wears many masks… so make sure yours is on tight!

Our Grapevine bar will be serving drinks outside (just bottled beers, wine & soft drinks only) from 4.30-5.15pm. There will only be 30 seats available for each performance, all positioned socially-distant from each other.

COVID-19 Measures & Full Information

As an organisation, The Questors is committed to putting the safety of our audiences first. That is why we are putting in place all the correct COVID-19 measures. These include...

  • All audience members must be socially distant from each other if they don’t live together. Chairs will be placed 2-metre distant from one another
  • As people are seated they will be allowed to move their chairs closer to one another if they are in a social bubble
  • We will be using plastic chairs, but you are welcome to bring a cushion for maximum comfort!
  • We won't have paper tickets - just a list of your names
  • There will be a queue up to the courtyard to check names and take down contact detail
  • You will be able to use the toilets in the building between 4.30pm-5.20pm, but not during the performance. You will then be able to use the toilets until 6.30pm after the performance. Masks must be worn at all times in the building
  • There will be stewards and a Duty Manager on site at all times.
  • After you have watched the performance and used the toilet, all audiences should leave the premises as soon as possible. We will then sanitize the courtyard and the building for the following day’s performance
