Janet and Ruby run and live in a chippie on the border in Northern Ireland. Ruby is blind but knows the café inside out. Janet hasn’t stepped outside the door in 15 years and takes meds to keep her sanity. The two women are locked in a love-hate relationship, but bound together by the disappearance many years ago of Kevin – Ruby’s son and Janet’s lover.
One desperately stormy night a strange young man arrives at the café, drenched to the bone. Just who is he, and what does he mean to Janet?
Martin, the local police officer, with his eyes on Janet, suspects her account of the mysterious man. Does he actually exist? If he does, is she really seeing him for who he is? And can the blind Ruby see more than them all?
