Submit your play to The Questors
When it comes to original writing and undiscovered writers, The Questors has a proud history of encouraging and fostering new dramatic talent. So, as you might expect, we warmly welcome writers sending their work to us, and have a formal process in place to make sure that every play submitted is read (anonymously) by a regular panel made up of experienced writers, directors and actors.
What we're looking for
We’re looking for exciting new drama and exciting new dramatic voices, but even if you’re not initially successful, we will give you open and honest feedback to help you improve your writing.
In particular we’re looking for plays which have a strong emotional impact, are relevant to modern audiences, are exciting or different, but above all that belong in a theatre.
What happens if your script is accepted?
If your script is accepted, we’ll work with you to develop it towards a full stage production. Very few plays are instantly accepted for production, but we have regular staged and table readings for new writing. A table reading is usually a reading of the play using a director and a group of actors and held privately for the writer to get an initial feel for how their play works.
Rehearsed readings often involve more technical elements, such as lighting and sound, and will have more input from both director and actors, and be presented on stage before an audience with the actors usually carrying their scripts. Both options could well lead on to full productions in one of our two theatre spaces, but are specifically designed to give new writers a first opportunity to see their work brought to life.
All scripts are anonymously reviewed by at least four readers, so please remove all personal details from the script itself. Scripts should be directly submitted by the author, and we do not accept scripts from agents or other commercial representatives. We prefer to see scripts that have not previously been given professional performances. As we are a theatre, they should also be written specifically for theatrical performance. Screen and radio plays, novels or poetry will not be accepted.
Finally, we don’t charge you to read your work.
