A man's life is spiralling out of control. Is he having a nervous breakdown? Is it the pressure of his pointless job? Is he even alive?
Disappearing to start a new life seems like the only way out, so under the guidance of a dubious specialist in Southend, Charlie discards the trappings of his identity as a London ad executive and embarks on a nightmarish journey to escape himself. But if he’s not himself, then who is he? And is he even alive?
This black comedy was the 2006 winner of the Arts Council’s John Whiting Award, which recognises excellence in theatre writing. Fin Kennedy’s exhilarating and extremely funny play ask us the question – what really makes us who we are?
“a piece of new writing that really does restore your confidence in the future of theatre.” The Stage
"An unsettling, dangerous play that makes you want to run away from yourself" The Guardian
**** Review of our production:
"With its committed performances, taut direction, hypnotic Radiohead soundtrack and characters who seem heightened often to the point of absurdity [...] How to Disappear Completely and Never be Found is a compelling, thought-provoking and often darkly hilarious play which demands that the audience engage with it fully, and will stay with them long after the final bow." **** Andrew Lawston, September 2024
