THE WRITER’S EYE
with playwrights Nigel Lawrence and Paul Ryan
Thursday 21st July, 9pm
Two playwrights Nigel Lawrence and Paul Ryan collaborate to explore the strengths and weaknesses of a short listed work, looking at intention, structure and characterisation and using a new play as a road map towards all levels of development. Actors and audience will be encouraged to suggest changes and alternatives within the session dedicated to creating something shared between participants that becomes as persuasive as it is undeniable. Not so much a play that never was, but instead, a play that truly is.
A SENSE OF DIRECTION
with director Stuart Watson and Papatango Award-winner James Rushbrooke
Friday 22nd July, 9pm
In which a Questors director and dramaturg lead an introductory rehearsal session on a shortlisted play, showcasing how while falling outside of the initial requirements of the festival, a greater artistic life for a promising play can be assured. Ideas may include coaching audience members to alternate with a selected cast in order to demonstrate possibilities of interpretation as a means if testing text. The role of the director as either servant to or commander of the text forms a focus here, alongside what a play needs in order to convince others, separate to personal taste and sensibility. In rehearsal the play grows and lives before it matures in performance.
WRITE A PLAY INSPIRED BY IMRPOV
With The Slack Captains and James Rushbrooke, Papatango Award-winning playwright
Saturday 23rd July, 9.30pm
James Rushbrooke, award-winning writer, will guide you through the five act structure on how to write the perfect short play, inspired by improv. The Questors celebrated resident Improv team, The Slack Captains, will improvise Comedy and Drama, based on your suggestions, to provide you with ideas for characters and stories. Send in your scripts inspired by the show and we'll move forward to develop the best for performance at a later date.
