Meet the Tutors
David Emmet | Director of Studies; Acting Tutor, Foundation Course in Acting
David is a hugely experienced director and acting tutor at The Questors. After training on the Foundation Course and the Advanced Performance Course, he acted and directed at The Questors and founded what is now the Young Studio Course in 1978. He moved on to become the Acting Tutor on the Foundation Course in 1982 and took over as Director of Studies from Alfred Emmet, the founder of the course, in 1983, since when he has guided and trained the students in 34 Groups. He is the author of all the teaching materials used on the acting course and has directed nearly 60 productions at The Questors.
Richard Gallagher | Acting Tutor, Advanced Performance Course
After training at the Manchester Polytechnic School of Theatre (now ‘Manchester Met’), Richard began his career as an actor at the Royal Exchange Theatre. Some years later, during a prolonged European tour for Theatre Totale, he wrote his first play, which was performed at the Contact Theatre (Manchester). Other plays, short stories and books followed. He has taught various aspects of theatre and writing for Kingston College, Stockport College, Salford University Manchester Met, Open Ealing and privately.
Alex Marker | Youth Theatre Director and Senior Tutor
Alex is
the current director of The Questors Youth Theatre, and has taught on
the programme for twenty years. Alex is a qualified teacher (PGCE:
University of Greenwich). He has run workshops and masterclasses for a
range of organisations and is a recurring guest tutor for the Royal
Shakespeare Company Open Stages Project. Alex is also lecturer in stage
design, construction and painting for the University of West London and
Kingston College. Since graduating (BA Hons in Theatre Design: Wimbledon
School of Art), Alex has designed over 150 productions for fringe,
regional, touring, site-specific and West End venues. He is Resident
Designer and Deputy Chief Executive at the Finborough Theatre.
Paul Whiting | Lead Tutor, Acting for All
Paul Attended the Questors Student group after which started his professional career as an actor and workshop leader with the Rainbow T.I.E. Theatre company. Subsequently he attended The Rose Bruford College of Speech & Drama and on graduating has appeared in several films and stage plays. In 2007 worked as one of the acting coaches on the Bafta nominated The Seven Sins of England on Channel 4 and the follow up The Enemy within. As well as acting & coaching, he is a musician and a comedy writer/actor with The Errors of Comedy Sketch-Comedy company and the Interference Sketch-Comedy company. Ant Griffith | Improvisation & Comedy Tutor, Founder of 'The Slack Captains'
Ant was in Questors Student Group 46, and graduated in Foundations of Acting at Mountview Drama school. He's studied improvisation for 5 years at The Free Association, Hoopla, The Nursery and The Maydays under numerous tutors including Suki Webster, Josie Lawrence, Katy Schutte, Maria Peters, and Graham Dickson. Ant is the founder and tutor of the Questors home improv team The Slack Captains. He's also a musician and songwriter, with several songs in the movie 'The Girl with a Clock for a Heart', currently in pre-production directed by Daniel Barber.
