Rising Kenyan star Njambi McGrath is the winner of the 2019 prestigious Hackney Empire NATYS Award. Her timely stand-up routine explores Britain in a time where Brexit seems inescapable, as we stand at the crossroads of self-identity and nostalgia of a bygone empire. This show is a juxtaposition of loss of a people from opposing sides - those mourning the loss of former glory, and those mourning how that former glory impacted on their lives, ripping apart their innocence. In an era when the British people are re-examining who they are in relation to the rest of the world, Njambi scrutinises her own story; from the other side of the empire.
Following on we have Somali-British comedian Prince Abdi. His versatile and unique storytelling makes him a feel-good comedian and one to watch. As well as being a regular on the UK comedy circuit , Prince Abdi has performed in various countries overseas including, Canada, Holland, Northern Ireland, South Africa, Australia, Germany, Slovenia, Nigeria and Ghana. He has also toured with the likes of Dave Chappelle, Michael McIntyre and Chris Rock and written and starred in his own TV sketch for the BBC, Comedy Central and ITV.
